We decided to visit the Ancient City of Ayutthaya, the old capital of Thailand. We knew that we wanted to see these amazing temples so decided to opt for a day trip from Bangkok. The drive to Ayutthaya took a few hours then we hopped on the boat back to Bangkok that took about the same amount of time!
You could spend a lot more than half a day visiting the sights of Ayutthaya, during our trip we visited 4 main sights.
We left Bangkok at 7:30am and headed for Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, this was a beautiful place with a mix of Chinese and European style architecture.
We then visited Wat Mahathat to explore the ancient ruined palaces. This was unbelievably beautiful & is famous for the Head of the Buddha, that has the roots of a mangrove tree growing around it!
After this we vivsited the biggest reclining Buddha (42 meters long & 8 meters high) in Ayutthaya at Wat Lokayasutharam.
After seeing all these amazing sights we heading back to Bangkok around 1pm on a River Cruise, where we were served a Thai & European buffet lunch whilst we took in views of the famous Bangkok river side attractions such as the Wat Arun & Royal Grand Palace from the comfort of the air-conditioned boat!
